Why They Cook grew out of two things I’ve always been drawn to: food and film.
I grew up in Spain, where food was never just about what was on the plate. It was about people, place, routine, family, conversation and the time spent around a table. That stayed with me, and cooking has always been a big part of my life.
When I first started picking up a camera, some of the earliest things I filmed were simply me cooking with friends. Long before I knew where filmmaking would take me, I was already interested in capturing those small moments around food, the preparation, the hands, the atmosphere and the people behind it.
I’ve since spent more than a decade working in film and television, but the idea behind Why They Cook is deliberately simple: to use that experience to make honest, beautiful films about the people behind the food.
Not reviews, not rankings, and not just the finished dish. I’m interested in where people come from, what keeps them doing it, the places that shape them and the reasons they chose this life in the first place.
Why They Cook is a way of bringing those two parts of my life together and of giving the people behind the food the space to tell their own story.
More than whats on the plate.
